We were at The Citi Open in College Park, MD to see top-seeded Shahar Peer and third-seeded Tamira Paszek each stroke their way into the quarter finals at the $220,000 Citi Open.

Peer, who had lost in the first round of four straight tournaments entering this week, defeated Alla Kudryavtseva by a score of 6-1, 6-4.

“There are so many players and you never know who will win. I have changed a lot of things in my game and try to be more aggressive but also consistent. I feel good and I hope to go as far as I can this weekend,” said top-seeded Shahar Peer.

Also advancing was eighth-seed Alberta Brianti, who ousted Varvara Lepchenko 6-1, 6-2, and Stephanie Dubois, who rallied to send off Heather Watson 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

“I think I managed to do pretty well. She was playing good but I never gave up and kept playing aggressive,” explained Stephanie Dubois.

The first-ever College Park champion will collect $37,000 on Sunday, July 31st.
