The following was sent to us by Staci Bloom:

With temperatures in the  area expecting to soar in the high 90’s and 100's once again this week, Washington Sports Clubs is encouraging Washingtonians to take their workouts indoors to escape the heat. Clubs citywide will open their doors to the public for free workouts every time the thermometer hits 90 degrees through August.

Beginning this month you can work out for free in any WSC facility on days where the temperature tops 90 degrees.

Hit the Trail

Hit the Trail

What would you expect a four-and-three-quarter-year-old to say at the end of a four-and-a-half-mile hike that she just finished using her own two feet? “What a wonderful day,” Sofi announced when we walked past the old Tavern (that I was wishing was still a tavern) at Great Falls National Park.

Excitement At The U.S. Open

With the second-round of the U.S. Open underway at Congressional Country Club, 22-year-old Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland eagled the eighth hole and is 4-under par for the round. He is seven ahead of Zach Johnson, who eagled No. 6, and Y.E. Yang, who tees off later today. He is on pace to set a few U.S. Open records today.

It has been interesting for fans to watch so far: a total of 33 players fired par or better Thursday, a far greater number than the 13 golfers who did so in last year’s first round at Pebble Beach.

We caught up with a few spectators to measure the levels of energy and excitement at The U.S. Open thus far.

“Lots of walking. Put on your walking shoes, but it’s a lot of fun,” said New Jersey visitor Thomas Love.
