Smash and grab robbery under investigation in Md.

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County Police say they are working a smash and grab robbery at a Subway shop around Randolph Road and New Hampshire in Wheaton that occurred at 2:44 a.m. Tuesday.

There is no report of injuries.

 

Police: Teacher accused of sexually assaulting student fled country

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- A teacher accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy with autism has fled the country, according to Montgomery County Police.

Police say on November 11 they started investigating allegations that 25-year-old Yee Tak Sharon Kui of Rockville, who taught at Frost School in Wheaton, assaulted the boy.  According to police: "The Frost School is a private special education school which serves children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and related special needs."

Police have found missing 61-year-old from Md.

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police have found a 61-year-old man who went missing earlier this morning. 

Police said he was located safe and unharmed. 

James Lambert was last seen between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Randolph Hills Nursing Center in Wheaton. Officials were concerned for his welfare since he is in need of medication. 

Police release sketch in sex assault cold case

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police have re-release a composite drawing of a suspect in a sexual assault cold case.

Police say the man pictured is suspected in multiple sexual assaults that occurred in Wheaton, Silver Spring and Takoma Park in the mid-1970s. The sketch is from the witness description over 35 years ago.

Detectives say they believe that there may be additional victims.  Officials hope that these victims may come forward and help identify the subject and help in track his whereabouts in the 1970s.

The man was described (in the mid-1970s) as a white male, in his late teens or early-20's, 5'11? tall, and weighing approximately 140 pounds.  He was described as having acne scars on the left side of his face, officials said.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the subject in the composite is asked to contact the Cold Case Unit at 240-773-5070.

72-year-old missing man FOUND

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Tuesday, detectives say they found a 72-year-old man who was missing from Wheaton.

Manuel Arturo Chorro was last seen at approximately 6:00 a.m. Monday leaving his home, say police. They say he left on foot without any identification, phone or money and that family was concerned for his mental well-being.

Tuesday morning, police say Chorro was located unharmed. No other details were available.

Fatal accident closes Connecticut Avenue near DC

(WUSA9) -- Montgomery County Police detectives are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Connecticut Avenue in Wheaton.

On November 3 at approximately 1:20 a.m., 4th District officers responded to Connecticut Avenue and Adams Drive for a report of a personal injury collision. 

Officers located a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu that was overturned in the northbound lanes of Connecticut Avenue. The officers also located an adult male, who had been ejected from the vehicle, in the center median.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Connecticut Avenue. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck the right curb and overturned.

The driver of the vehicle, its sole occupant, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver is identified as David Wayne Mills, 54, of Wheaton.
