SWAT response at Wheaton home for man acting violent

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- A SWAT response has been called to a Wheaton home after police received reports of a man acting violently Thursday, police said.

Officers responded to a Wheaton home around 1:49 p.m. for reports of a man acting violently in a home located in the 12100 block of Atherton Drive.

Police say the man is believe to be alone and officers are attempting to talk to him. Police say a "modified" SWAT response has been called to the home.

At this time, no injuries have been reported, police said.

METRO SCHOOL of the ARTS ACADEMY AUDITIONS, SUN., MAR. 1; for 2015-2016 School Year

Students interested in attending the Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria and Lorton, Va. can audition on Sun., Mar. 1 at MSA Lorton Campus at 9601 Ox Road. Auditions are required as part of the 2015-2016 academy registration. The MSA Academy audition is for performing arts students from 6th grade to 12th grade. Students should call 703-339-0444 ext.3 or visit www.metropolitanarts.org to register for an audition time. 

The audition process will give prospective students an opportunity to demonstrate his or her skills in dance, music and theater for the chairs of the respective arts departments.  Applicants must attend a live audition if they live within three geographical states of MSA.  Prospective students living beyond the three-state radius may submit a DVD audition. 

19-year-old struck by Ride On bus in Wheaton

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA 9) -- Montgomery County Police say a 19-year-old male was transported to the hospital after being struck by a Ride On bus in Wheaton, Md.

Police say the 19-year-old was struck across from Wheaton Metro Station on the 11100 block of Georgia Avenue.

The teen was transported to Suburban Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Suspect wanted in attempted sex assault at Wheaton Metro

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police are looking for a suspect in connection with an attempted sex assault in the Wheaton Metro parking garage.

Around 9 p.m. Monday, a 33-year-old woman was opening her car door in the garage, located at 11010 Veirs Mill Road, when the suspect approached her, according to police.

He was holding a gun to his side and demanded that the woman follow him and perform a sex act, police said. When the victim refused, the suspect fled the scene. That's when the victim got into her call, left the garage and called police.

The suspect is described as a black male in his teens, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and armed with a gun.

FOUND: Carman Ibar, 70, Wheaton

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police found Carman Ibar, 70, of Wheaton in Silver Spring. She is safe and has been reunited with her family, police said.


Montgomery County Police are looking for a missing 70-year-old woman from Wheaton, who was last seen on Thanksgiving afternoon at her home, police said.

Carman Ibar, 70, was last seen around 3 p.m. in the 12600 block of English Orchard Court in Wheaton, Md., authorities said. Police believe Ibar got the keys to a family member's car and drove off.



Ben Cherington and Kylie Levy of Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) Performing Arts Academy of Lorton, Va. and Alexandria, Va. were recently recognized for All-Star Cast by the Virginia Theatre Association Conference for their performances in I Never Saw Another Butterfly. This was the first time Metropolitan School of the Arts had participated in the conference. Cherington, an 11th grader from Burke, Va., and Levy, a 10th grader from Fairfax, Va. are students at Metropolitan School of the Arts. For more information, go to www.metropolitanarts.org.

Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) also earned the 2014 Virginia Theatre Association Conference award for Best Costume Design and was recognized for Staging, as well as received an honorable mention for Best Play, I Never Saw Another Butterfly.

Wheaton Metro attempted abduction under investigation

WHEATON, Md (WUSA9) -- Metro Police are investigating an attempted abduction that happened Saturday night at Wheaton Metro involving two people who live together, a Metro spokesperson said.

The incident happened around 9 p.m., according to Metro. The victim, a woman, knows the suspect, police said. The woman and the man live together, according to authorities.

The man is currently being detained.

No injuries were reported in the incident. The incident is still under investigation.
