Georgia Ave reopened after water main break
News

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Georgia Avenue has reopened in Wheaton one day after a water main break shut down traffic and turned the road into a river.

Approximately 2.5 million gallons of water spilled out in two hours after the main near Georgia Avenue and Shorefield Road burst Wednesday afternoon.

This isn't the first time this main has broken. The main broke in November, causing similar flooding problems.

Construction work has been going on in the area for some time, as part of a redesign project at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road. It's unknown whether that had anything to do with the break.
