Montgomery Parks July 4th Operating Schedule And Events

SILVER SPRING, Md.  – Most Montgomery Parks and facilities will operate its usual hours on Wednesday, July 4th. But before you plan your outing, check out what parks will be closed or operate on shortened schedules on Independence Day.

The following facilities and programs will be closed on July 4:

  • Montgomery Parks Nature Centers:
  • Locust Grove Nature Center
  • Meadowside Nature Center
  • Brookside Nature Center
  • Montgomery Parks Summer Camps
  • Park Permits Office
  • Pauline Betz Addie Tennis Center at Cabin John Regional Park
  • Wheaton Ice Arena at Wheaton Regional Park

The following facilities will close early on July 4th:

  • Cabin John Ice Rink at Cabin John Regional Park: Open 6 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Olney Skate Park at Olney Manor Recreational Park: Open 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • South Germantown Driving Range at South Germantown Recreational Park: Open 9 a.m.

FOTODC Looks For The Best Area Photographer

Calling all photographers. FotoDC is on the hunt for the most interesting work by Washington area photographers for the 2nd annual Uncover/Discover exhibition.

The panel of curators includes Elizabeth Krist, Senior Photo Editor at National Geographic; Jayme McLellan, Director of Civilian Art Projects and Ken Ashton, Artist and Museum Professional.

Curators will select work from emerging and established photographers who sent in their stuff for a chance to be featured in two exhibitions this fall. 

"It is our mission to discover and spotlight the work of Metro Area photographers,” said Theo Adamstein, Executive Director and Founder of FotoDC.

Local Gym Participates in World's Largest Swim Lesson

Over 24 countries and 46 states within the U.S. will be participating in the Guinness World Record of the World’s Largest Swim Lesson this week.

Want to join in all the fun? On Thursday, June 14, the Sport & Health Clubs in Gaithersburg, McLean and Brambleton, Va., will be hosting open swim lessons at 11 a.m., and anyone can attend.

This swim lesson is intended to prevent future accidents, practice water safety, and reinforce the fact that swimming lessons save lives.

Alexandria Seaport Foundation receives $50K grant at Economic Club event with guest Warren Buffett

Buffett and David Rubenstein, The Economic Club of Washington, DC's President, are among business leaders at 25th anniversary celebration on June 5th where 10 community organizations, including the Alexandria Seaport Foundation, received a total of $500,000 in grants

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation (ASF), which offers disadvantaged youth and young adults a paid, work-based apprentice program in boat building that prepares participants for careers in the building trades, received a $50,000 grant from The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. at its 25th anniversary on June 5th at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park.

Showcase For Talented Youth Comes to Silver Spring

Some of the most talented youth in the DC area will be in downtown Silver Spring on Friday, June 1st for the 2nd Annual Youth Arts Fair, "Gifted, Talented, and Under 21 Showcase.”

Over 125 young performers and visual artists from all over the region will perform on the outdoor plaza at the Silver Spring Civic Building from 5 to 8 p.m.

This is your chance to see a youth hip-hop choir, competitive tappers, ballet dancers, a drill team, poets, and mime artists all in one place for free!
