Veterans of every era and the public are invited to attend the second annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Reunion on Wednesday, March 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building.  The event will include a reception for veterans, a panel discussion on Vietnam and the Vietnam War: Then and Now and a conversation with County Executive Ike Leggett about his 2009 visit back to Vietnam. 

            Veterans are encouraged to wear their military uniform or veteran organization attire. The reunion is sponsored by the Montgomery County Commission on Veterans Affairs. 

            The Silver Spring Civic Building is located in downtown Silver Spring at One Veterans Plaza.

Montgomery County’s Domestic Violence Coordinating Council (DVCC) will host the second annual Choose Respect Montgomery teen dating conference on Saturday, April 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Montgomery College’s Takoma Park campus.

            According to a recent study, one in five high school girls has been physically or sexually abused by a dating partner.  Nearly half of teens involved in dating relationships report being controlled, threatened and coerced to do things they did not want to do.

Gaithersburg Hosts 3rd Annual Active Aging Expo

Gaithersburg, MD -  Montgomery County ranked first on a 2008 list of longest life expectancy in the U.S. at 81.31 years according to Money Magazine.  Staying healthy, active and involved are the keys to successful aging. 

The City of Gaithersburg Active Aging Expo will be a day filled with energy, educational talks, interactive demonstrations, and preventive screenings.  There will also be facials, massages and the opportunity to explore how to re-invent yourself at any age.  Learn how the arts can help you age more successfully, how to care for your skin to look your best, how to keep your brain active and healthy, ways to reduce stress, how to maintain healthy relationships and romance, and tips for leading a healthier, safer life.

Opportunity to meet Flag Officers from the NAVY at their Stars & Stripes Reception

The U.S. Department of the NAVY hosted and invited our members to attend the Stars & Strips reception held during the Black Engineers Awards Conference on February 18, 2011.  The NAVY (Flag Officers) had round-table discussions with the students based on their interest in a career in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM).  

On Saturday, February 19th, the Patriots attended the conference where hundreds of organizations were available to help our youth focus on the importance of STEM related fields in an effort to develop the necessary leadership skills to be successful in their future career goals.
