Missing Takoma Park Teen

Detectives from the Takoma Park Police Department are investigating the disappearance of a critically missing Takoma Park juvenile. Yvette Funmilayo Animashaun, 13, was last seen on July 22, 2011 in the 7600 block of Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland.  Animashaun was last seen wearing a black head scarf, black shirt and shorts of an unknown color. 
Animashaun is a black female, 5’7 tall, 120 lbs., black hair in an afro-hair style, brown eyes with a fair complexion.  Animashaun has a tattoo on her chest – “7600.”  She may be at a friend’s house, but that is unknown.  She is a habitual runaway.  Animashaun is considered a critical missing person due to age.

Anyone who has information about Animashaun's whereabouts is asked to contact Det. Gaskin of the Takoma Park Police Department at 301-270-1100 and refer to case #11035799.

Armed Robbery of Safeway Store

 

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police-Major Crimes Division, Robbery Section are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a Safeway grocery store.  Today, detectives are releasing photographs of the suspects.

On July 15 at approximately 10:22 p.m., officers from the 3rd District responded to the Safeway, 116 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring for the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.  The preliminary investigation revealed that two suspects entered the store office and encountered an employee.  One suspect pulled out a handgun and the other suspect punched the employee in the face.  The suspects then removed an undetermined amount of currency from the cash drawers in the office.  The suspects then fled in an unknown direction.

Reward Offered in North Bethesda Middle School Vandalism

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police 2nd District continue to investigate a vandalism that occurred at North Bethesda Middle School over the weekend. Crime Solvers is now offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest and/or indictment in this case.

Vandalism Discovered to School in Bethesda

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police 2nd District are investigating vandalism that was discovered July 16th to an area middle school and to vehicles parked in the neighborhood near the school.

 Early this morning, school security officers responded to North Bethesda Middle School located at 8935 Bradmoor Drive in Bethesda, for an active alarm.  They discovered vandalism to the school and contacted police.  At approximately 2:40 this morning, 2nd District officers responded to begin an investigation.  They found an ethnically-offensive word, a sexually-descriptive drawing, and several initials painted on the outside of the building.  They also found several windows had been broken.  As the investigation continued, they discovered that seven vehicles on Beech Avenue had paint on them, and one vehicle had the same ethnically-offensive word painted on it.

Mitchellville Man Sentenced for Unlicensed Export of  Firearms  To Nigeria

 

The following information was sent from the U.S. Department of Justice:

Greenbelt, Maryland - Chief U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow sentenced Boniface Ibe, age 50, of Mitchellville, Maryland, today to five months in prison followed by 10 months of supervised release for exporting arms and controlled goods to Nigeria without a license, and for delivering a firearm to a common carrier without written notice.

Police Seek Help to Locate Missing Bethesda Teenager

The following information comes to us from Montgomery County's Police Family Crimes Division:

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Family Crimes Division are asking the public for help to locate a teenager missing from Bethesda.

Michael Jeffrey Gura, age 17, of the 4900 block of Sentinel Drive in Bethesda was last seen on July 3. Michael is described as a white male, 6’ tall, weighing 140 pounds, with brown eyes and short, curly brown hair.  The teenager was last seen driving a Gold 1999 Chrysler Sebring 4-door with Maryland tags of GGY-275.

Police and his family are concerned for his welfare because it is uncharacteristic for the teenager not to have contact with his family. 

Anyone with information about Michael Gura’s whereabouts is asked to call the Montgomery County police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000 (24hrs).  Callers may remain anonymous.

Arrest Made in Wheaton Bank Robbery

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Robbery Section and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are investigating a bank robbery that occurred in Wheaton.

On July 27th, at approximately 9:54 a.m., 4th District officers responded to the M&T Bank located at 12041 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton for the report of a bank robbery that had just occurred.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect entered the bank through the front door and waited to be assisted by a teller.  Upon approaching the teller, the suspect presented a note demanding cash.  After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot out the front door of the bank.
