14th ANNUAL YOUTH SUMMIT ON TECHNOLOGY

The Youth Summit on Technology is Patriots’ original and signature event and we are excited to have Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker as our Chairman for this year’s annual event.  Last year, this event was attended by over 500 students from 5th-12th grades and a growing number of parents.  The purpose of the Summit is to get students excited about the possibility of college, study and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Morning Program:  The Summit program starts with a Mix and Mingle Breakfast, a keynote and guest speakers.  This event is attended by school and elected officials among others.  It is followed by a full schedule of workshops on technology and career topics.  Simultaneously, there are parent workshops on finding money and resources to pay for college and financing college through federal agencies that provide employment during and after college.  Workshop presenters are from schools, government, and IT corporations.  The lunch program follows.  Exhibits are open during the breakfast and lunch programs. 

Computer-Building Competition:  During the afternoon, a computer-building competition will be open to all 5th – 12th grade students.  Patriots will assign you to a four-member team or you can form your own prior to registration.  Each member of the team that builds the computer the fastest will win a laptop.  You do not have to know how to do it before you enter.   Patriots will provide computer building workshops to all participants on two Saturdays; April 16th & 30th.  An entrance fee of $40 per person is required for this competition.  If you are interested in participating, please contact the Patriots.  Contact Irene Rogers at 301.925.9350 or irene-rogers@live.com.

Patro-Tech Game Show/Social Media Jeopardy:  There is also a Patrotech Game Show, in Jeopardy format, which is always great fun.  There are eight, three-member high school teams who will answer questions from a panel of IT professionals.  About four weeks before theSummit, each team is given 200 questions to study.  Each member of the winning team will win a computer.   An entrance fee of $40 per person is required for this competition.  If you are interested in participating, please contact the Patriots.  Contact Irene Rogers at 301.925.9350 or irene-rogers@live.com.

Flight Simulation Competition:  Teams of four students will display the flight simulators they built during the previous weeks; March 12th, 19th, & 26th.  They will share their knowledge and be judged for competency in flight including becoming airborne, developing and maintaining flight paths, safely landing, and overall aeronautical skills during the competition.  They will compete in a tournament bracket until the winner with the best skills is decided.  Contact Irene Rogers at 301.925.9350 or irene-rogers@live.com

Gifts:  All students receive event bags with promotional items from different companies in addition to a 2011 Youth Summit t-shirt.  There are also door prizes.  

Business and Government Support:  The Youth Summit is made possible by sponsors from government and corporations.  Approximately 50-60 companies are represented at this event.  Our program booklet recognizes the participation of all sponsors and other participating organizations and volunteers.

  • Youth SummitPatriots Members:  $25.00 (Bonus: Membership for 2011-2012 Patro-Tech Science Club is only an additional $10.00)
  • YouthSummitAdults:  $10.00 (attendance to the entire program and parent workshops - including breakfast/ lunch)
  • ComputerBuildingCompetition:  $40.00 – 5th thru 12th Grade (winning team of 4 will receive a Lap Top Computer) 
  • Patro-Tech Game Show/Social Media Jeopardy-Teams $40.00 9th thru 12th Grade (winning team of 3 will receive a Lap Top Computer)
