Police look for Radio Shack smash and grab suspects

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Broken glass covers the entrance of a Radio Shack in Wheaton following a burglary.

Montgomery County Police spokesperson Cpl Rebecca Innocenti says at 3:21 a.m. there was an alarm call for the store at 11147 Veirs Mill Road. Officers discovered someone had broken into the store and stolen property, says Innocenti.

Innocenti says officers checked other businesses in the area and at 3:36 a.m. an officer found forced entry and property taken from a store at 11249 New Hampshire Ave.

Police are looking at the possibility that these two incident are related, according to Innocenti. Police also haven't ruled out that the burglaries may be related to the smash and grab at a Subway at 15500 block of Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville on Tuesday.

Crashes, fallen beam on Beltway back up traffic

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Early Monday morning, the Outer Loop is a mess.

Sky 9 flew over the scene of a crash on the Outer Loop of the Beltway before the I-95 interchange in College Park. We saw a stretcher on the scene as well.

A large beam fell across the roadway on the right side on the Outer Loop after Colesville Road. There were about 10 disabled vehicles with flat tires at the scene on the shoulder, which initially caused that delay.

Another accident occurred at the New Hampshire Avenue exit. Two vehicles blocked the far left lane.

Traffic is moving slower than normal north of the Beltway in Wheaton.

Wheaton water main breaks again

WHEATON, Md. (WUSA9) -- The water main at University Boulevard and Veirs Mill Road that broke on Monday has broken again, say officials.

A spokesperson with WSSC says that repair crews have been working on the 12-inch main and hope to complete repairs by daybreak on Saturday.

The break is about fifty feet from the break in the same pipe on Monday. This break affects 102 customers, including the Ambassador Apartments.

WSSC have had to fix 40-50 water main breaks a day for the past four to five days.

The pipe is 78-years-old. Once a contractor gets to the scene, it usually takes them about four to six hours to fix the break.

Weather is determined to be a factor, officials said.
